Madame Edwarda – Lorelei ・・ Etranger ・・ Heliogabale 12″

This 12″ from 1985 might just be my most listened to japanese gothic/death rock release at the moment (was that an overly narrow superlative?). All three songs are extremely long and awesome epics (between 5:30 and 8:00 minutes!): Lorelei is melancholic and theatralic in the singer’s wailing and warbling, Étranger sounds cold and sneering with its e-drum accents and atonal riff, Héliogabale is somewhat subdued but almost dancable in places and ends with an almost honey-sweet guitar melody. What’s not to love about it?

Another band with Great Big Hair. And make-up, too!

Not sure if I‘ll like it much (their tracks on the Outsider comp don‘t impress me very much) but gotta give them a try! Anyway, they were pioneers of the genre in Japan so… respect! :D This seems to be their second release. Their previous was a full LP on the City Rocker label (mother label of Dogma Records, I think).
    Going for the second…

    Hey Fernando,
I thought these songs are way cooler than the Outsider tracks. I also prefer them to the LP (which also has its moments). Maybe it took them a while to really get going?

Hey, man. The 1st minute of the LORELEI track is cut out and mixed with the ÉTRANGER track (which by the way is actually HÉLIOGABALE xD)… people make this confusion because on the label they are not in the correct order, Héliogabale is the 4:25 minutes one and Étranger is the 6:30 minutes one. If it’s not too much too ask, would you mind just ripping the LORELEI TRACK again, the 9:00 minutes one on side A. Soundwise this is the best rip i‘ve seen and I‘d be grateful, this is like my favorite record ever, no kidding haha :)

Whoa, thank you very much for pointing that out. I fixed it all, it’s uploading right now. I had suspected the switched song titles, because the lyrics in Étranger sound like Héliogabale, but I wasn‘t certain. That ripping mistake is awkward…
    Thanks a lot!
