The Ease – Saiki 8“

Seems like The Ease from Aichi were one of countless one-release-and-no-hit-wonders of punk rock, so this three track 8“ flexi disc is all they ever did. The music is mostly slow to mid-tempo punk rock, with some new wave and a little bit of pop thrown it. The sound is somewhat tinny and trebly, which really fits the music: a steady beat, simple but wandering bass lines, arpeggiated (is that the correct term? I forgot!) chords and a high-pitched, sometimes a bit unsteady singer with a really cool voice. The opener Saiki is a cool punk rock song with a marching bass and a rocking guitar riff thrown on top, 時間砂陵 is a great anthem of melancholy and darkness, Hydra Dawn is a beautiful, sad pop number with an organ in the background (and it’s even greater than 時間砂陵!).

Why the hell couldn‘t you last longer and record more? This was some great shit!

Gauze – Equalizing Distort 12“

THE album. Or at least its bootleg with bonus tracks from „Thrash Till Death“ and „A Farewell To Arms“.

THE (!) album.

v.a. 時の葬列 – Selections From Excommunicated Monument

This is great compilation album of japanese mid-eighties gothic, new wave, post-punk and noisy avantgarde stuff. G-Schmitt are frail, beautiful and full of pathos, Madame Edwarda’s tracks definitely surpass the songs of their debut album, Auto-Mod deliver songs of dancable aggression and childlike wanderings (but less funk than on some of their 7“es), and Sadie-Sads‘ tracks on this album are pure genius. And to make it all perfect, the title translates as…

The Funeral Procession Of Time!

The Sexual – The Last Days / Antiseptic – First-Last 12″

Those interested in getting some of The Sexual’s output on vinyl should avoid this LP. Their tracks come from a lousy old copy of „The Last Days“ which skipped like hell, plus one song is missing. There’s also only one track off the Jisatsu Omnibus compilation. So you‘ll have some listening pleasure I didn‘t record the songs off this LP, but I included the tracks off the original compilation and this bootleg. Actually, all of their official releases plus some cool unreleased songs have recently been bootlegged on LP, so one can get them all in better quality than here.
Now for Antiseptic: their songs on this LP were all taken off their only release, 1986’s „First-Last“ 7“. To my ears there’s definitely some Zouo, The Mobs and The Bones in these songs, also loads of quality metal guitar riffing and tapping.

Last Days, First Last – The Antiseptic Sexual!

Glycerin – … From The Depth 8″

Compilation tracks aside, this 8“ from 1987 on AA Records was Glycerin’s only release. They no longer play the noisy thrash like on ADK Omnibus Vol. 2, but changed their style to a slower paced punk with some metallic riffing, thumb-muting and soloing. Fun factoid: the longest song on this 8“ is longer than all of their tracks on ADK Omnibus Vol.2 combined.

That’s arithmetics for you.

紅蜥蜴 – けしの華 LP

Before Lizard there was Benitokage (meaning „Red Lizard“). The band started some time in the early seventies and released two 7“es during their lifetime. This LP and the accompanying flexi 7“ from 1980 were released posthumously and compiled tracks from several recording sessions and live shows between 1976 and 1978. Benitokage were a lot more 70s proto-punk and glam; there’s some great pictures of theirs wearing semi-drag on the web. Musically the album is very diverse, a mix of funky rock, up-beat proto New Wave, some off-beat, some electro (Momoyo going solo!), you name it! Their synth already promises what Lizard were to keep, several of these songs would later be reworked to become Lizard tracks.

I hope I didn‘t fumble too badly describing their music… argh…

Enjoy some first class music after a mediocre description!
