v.a Outsider LP

The Outsider compilation LP on City Rocker Records was one of the earliest japanese hardcore releases. It’s all live recordings, so it’s a pretty raw affair. Side A has an all-star line-up of GISM, Gauze, Lip Cream (nope, it’s Laughin‘ Nose. Thanks for pointing that out, Fernando!) and The Comes, while Side B features the more obscure post-punk/wave bands Mastervation, Fullx, Route 66 and Madame Edwarda. The LP comes with artwork in the style of Crass Records and a huge fold-out poster designed by GISM’s Sakevi.

Hog Punks! Well?

v.a. Great Punk Hits LP

Just what can you expect of a compilation named „Great Punk Hits“? Exactly what it says on the tin: GISM deliver two tracks of completely distorted, fuzzy and hissing metallic hardcore; The Execute songs are fast and melodic with some metal guitars (just like their first 7″); The Clay are great, primitive political hardcore punk; Aburadako are weird and awesome (sadly the record skips on one of their songs); G-Zet are simply great with one heavy hardcore track and one instrumental song; Laughin‘ Nose are forgettable as always.

Did I mention how great these punk hits are?

v.a. Hardcore Unlawful Assembly

This compilation LP from 1984 is something of a misnomer, since there’s quite a lot of non-hardcore on it: Cobra, Laughin‘ Nose (absolute unlistenable and unbearable lyrics on this release) and Baws are more Oi!/punk than hardcore. The rest are real heavy weights, though: Zouo were the darkest band in japanese hardcore, Lip Cream deliver heavy thrash, Outo are pure distortion, Mobs play dark, somewhat melodic mid-tempo hardcore and GISM are pure evil (as usual)!

I thought this was a riotous assembly?

v.a. The Punx – ストリート・ムーヴメント

The Punx – Street Movement was originally released as a tape in 1985 with a huge 84 page book about the history of Japan’s punk scene. The compilation features songs by Gas, Laughin‘ Nose, new wave band The Willard, the hilarious Cobra (Worrier’s Rock? Or did they mean Warriors‘ Rock?), Lip Cream and GISM. One of the GISM tracks has a different song on each audio channel (can‘t these maniacs do anything like ordinary, well adjusted people?), but I separated the channels so you can listen to each song on its own. You‘re welcome!

C‘mon in Oi!
